Rise of the Tomb Raider: Strategy Of Microsoft

Microsoft has taken some bold steps in distinguishing the Xbox One as the ultimate gaming console. Not simply content with resting on its own superb line-up of first party titles from the explosive continuation of Master Chief’s adventures to the mind bending temporal high jinks of Quantum Break the company is reaching out to secure a terrific collection of third-party exclusives that’ll shape the future of the console.

Continuing the adventures of intrepid explorer Lara Croft, Rise Of The Tomb Raider is the latest Xbox exclusive announced in what Microsoft promises to be a new wave of massive games that you can only play on Xbox 360 and Xbox One. We’ve just scratching the surface, so join us as we take a look over the exclusive titles both first and third party heading our way in the future, and the hotly tipped games that could potentially be the next big exclusive heading to Xbox in the future.

What’s always been innately fascinating about Lara Croft, besides her uncanny ability to effectively dual-wield pistols and eradicate local wildlife, is the path that lies ahead and where it might take her.

In Rise Of The Tomb Raider we at least know the destination: Xbox One. Crystal Dynamics is bringing the next chapter in the reboot cum origin story to Xbox platforms at the end of the last year, confirming one of the biggest exclusivity deals in the history of the industry. But what’s more exciting is the fact that the origin story is over, no more ‘Lara Begins’ headlines and we can get down to the nitty-gritty of proper tomb-raiding and fast-paced action that defined the series in its previous forms.

What we know so far is that Rise Of The Tomb Raider will take her to a range of new locations (described as “beautifully hostile” by Crystal) compared to the one island she was marooned on in its predecessor, one being a Lost City that is confirmed to actually contain tombs this time around. Exciting stuff. The only environment we’ve seen to date is an icy clime, which will involve Lara having to scale mountaintops using a climbing axe, and fending off local wildlife like bears with her new bow.

Expect there to be some human enemies as well to put her gun skills to the test, not to mention some psychological demons that she’ll be battling thanks to her time spent on Cannibal Island. The debut trailer shows the upper crust adventurer offloading her problems on a psychiatrist and it’s clear that Rise will continue to form Lara into the kick-ass heroine we all know and love.

Plot-wise, we do know that Lara will have a run-in with a group of mysterious assassins, where she’ll have to put her newly-acquired survival skills to the test if she wants to make it out of another horrific ordeal unscathed. And just that sliver of information sounds rather intriguing, promising, by all accounts, that Lara’s journey will take her through more perilous circumstances. Let’s hope wherever else that path may take her, it’ll be a route that’ll not only define Lara as the icon she is but the Xbox as the ultimate platform to showcase her potential.
